This guide walks you through each step of setting up your Socio Onsite hardware kit. If you have trouble during setup and configuration, check out the troubleshooting section at the end of the article. Make sure you set up each piece of equipment in the order in which it's presented here.
⭐️ Keep in mind, we recommend setting up and testing the printer no less than one day before attendees begin to arrive. This ensures plenty of time to test and work through any questions or confusion before check-in begins. You should also test each morning of the event to ensure the equipment is working properly.
1. Router setup
Plug the router's power cord into a power source. After about 30 seconds, the light on the top will turn blue. Plug the supplied Ethernet cable into the LAN1 port on the back of the router, and plug the other end into the printer’s network port.
2. Printer setup
Plug the printer’s power cord into a power source, and press the power button. After the printer powers on, make sure the network light at the top right corner of the screen is green. If the light is off or yellow, check to make sure the Ethernet cable is connected to both the router and the printer.
⭐️ Keep in mind, printers don't support WiFi connection and must be connected directly to the router with an ethernet cable.
Complete the steps in this article to load and calibrate the printer.
3. iPad setup
⚠️ Complete these steps for each iPad.
Connect the iPad’s power cable to a power source, and place the iPad on its stand. Power on the iPad, and connect the WiFi to the router’s network. Network information can be found on the bottom of the router.
Now, open the Socio Onsite app, and log in using your Socio Platform credentials. After logging in, tap the correct event, and follow the onscreen instructions. As you set things up, here are a couple things to keep in mind:
If you're working with multiple printers, be sure to select the right one. Printers are listed in the Onsite App by their serial number, which can be found on the bottom of the printer.
When you set the Printer Location, you may be filling in the second half of a statement that starts with something like "Your badge is being printed..." The preset text you're adding to is shown above the Printer Location field, so make sure what you enter makes grammatical sense with it. If the preset text seems complete, simply name the printer with something related to its location.
If you skip printer connection during your initial setup of the Onsite App, you must access the app's settings and connect a printer before attendees can print their badges.
Once you've completed setup and launched Kiosk Mode, you're ready to start printing!
Onsite App settings
Swipe up with three fingers from the main kiosk page of Socio Onsite app to access Settings. In addition to selecting a different event or connecting to a printer, you can also change the password for the Onsite app and access help documentation from the settings menu. We highly recommend that you tap Log out on each iPad after you're done printing badges.
Under the Event Settings tab, you can tap the Change Event button to select a different event to print badges from.
All attendee data will automatically sync to each iPad, and you may need to use the Refresh all onsite data button to sync badge designs if a badge design is changed after iPads have been set up.
If you need to switch the printer an iPad is connected to, tap the Printer Settings option, then tap the Selected Printer serial number to scan the network for another.
⭐️ Keep in mind, the iPad must be connected to the same router or network as the printer.
The Password Settings menu simply lets you change the password that unlocks the Settings page.
Now you know all about setting up routers, iPads, and Printers so you can print attendee badges!
