Internal links are a simple yet powerful way to connect related event content! While external links lead to content outside your Event App, such as a website, internal links link to features and feature items you've created in your Webex Events App, such as a Session to a speaker or sponsor. This provides your attendees with robust, intuitive navigation throughout the app.

Use internal links to promote awareness for Sessions, speakers, sponsors, and more! Keep reading to learn how. 📖

Types of internal links

Many places throughout the Event App support internal links, and you can even add them in bulk using import templates. Internal Links listed in feature items appear to attendees on the Mobile App and web version in the following order:

  • Announcements**

  • Sessions

  • Sponsors

  • Speakers

  • Documents*

  • Single Document*

  • Web List items*

  • Video Rooms

  • Exhibitors

  • Single Item

  • Custom List items

  • Banner images**

*Any feature or item marked with a single asterisk doesn't have an 'Add Internal Links' section, so you must link to it from the feature you want to associate it with. You can't link items marked with an asterisk together, and items in the same feature can't be linked to each other.

**Banner layout images and Announcements can link to an entire feature or a feature item. They can not link to Video Rooms or Web Link features.

Add internal links

To add an internal link to an individual item, edit the item and find the 'Add Internal Links' section. Refer to the documentation for each feature for a complete overview of where to insert internal links.

💡 Keep in mind, before adding an Internal Link to an item, that item must first exist. Items in the same feature can't be linked to each other. For example, you can't internally link one Session to another Session in the same Agenda feature.

In the search field, simply enter the name of the existing item you want to link to. Search for the name of a Session, speaker, sponsor, or anything else from the list at the beginning of this article. Select the item you want to link to, then click Save Changes. It's that easy! 👍

💡 Keep in mind, in addition to individual feature items, Banner images and Announcements let you internally link to an entire feature.

Internal Links in practice

When attendees open a feature item with internal links, such as an Agenda Session, the linked items display in the order listed previously. Attendees select any of the internally linked items to access them instantly. For example, the GIF at the beginning of this article shows tapping a speaker internal link from an Agenda Session.

Since Documents, Single Document, Video Rooms, and Web List feature items launch immediately when a user clicks on them, Internal Links don't appear within those items. For example, if a Single Document is linked to a Session, the document appears in the Session's Details tab. However, since a Single Document launches immediately when a user clicks it, there's no place in the Single Document feature for the linked Session to appear.

Pro tips! 😎

  • When choosing your internal links for an item, consider other areas of the Event App that users may be interested in. For example, when they're viewing an Agenda Session, they may want to know who the speaker is or review presentation slides.

  • Consider internally linking to an entire feature from a Banner image or an Announcement if you want to drive traffic to all the items within that feature. For example, you might want to highlight a Sponsors feature dedicated to your premium sponsors.

  • Internal links to features always appear in the web version and Mobile App in the order shown earlier in this article. Items within the features display in the order set in the Webex Events platform. If you want a certain speaker to show up first in the list, edit your Speakers feature and move that speaker to the top of the list.

  • Showcase sponsors in your event by linking them to Sessions, video rooms, or other activities they're sponsoring. Our article about showcasing sponsors has more great ideas about highlighting sponsors in your Event App.
