The first steps for building your Branded Mobile App

Apple requires an Apple Developer Account to create, publish, and maintain a Branded Mobile App for your organization. To do that, Apple requires your organization to obtain a D-U-N-S number from Dun & Bradstreet. Once you have a D-U-N-S number and an Apple Developer Account, you must invite Webex Events to your Apple Developer Account and then build and submit your app in the Webex Events platform.

Before you start...

  • If you're using the Webex Events App instead of the Branded Mobile App, you do not need to enroll in the Apple Developer Program. Bye! 👋

  • Because the steps involving the Apple Developer Account are crucial to a successful Branded App submission, you should start working on these right away! Use the buttons in each step of this article to access complete instructions for these processes.

  • If you need to do limited or enterprise distribution for your app, read our article about limited distribution before continuing.

Step 1: Get or locate your D-U-N-S number

💡 Keep in mind, if you already have a D-U-N-S number and an Apple Developer Account, skip to Step 3.

Apple requires that your company be a legal entity to enroll in the Apple Developer Program as an organization. A D-U-N-S number is simply a unique identifier for your business within the global Dun & Bradstreet network. The number acts as a certificate verifying that your organization is a legal entity.

Whether you need to obtain a new D-U-N-S number or find your existing number, this is the first thing you should do when starting on your Branded App.

💡 Keep in mind, you should start building your Branded App while you're waiting for your D-U-N-S number and Apple Developer Program approval! You simply won't be able to publish the app until you're enrolled.

Step 2: Prepare your Apple Developer Account

Apple requires that the organization that owns the content within the Branded App maintain an Apple Developer Account. For third-party event planners, this means that your client needs to set up the Developer Account in their organization's name.

Step 3: Invite Webex Events to your Apple Developer Account

Once your enrollment in the Apple Developer Program is approved, you're ready to grant Webex Events access to your Apple Developer Account. This is necessary so the Webex Events Branded Apps team can finalize your app and send it to Apple for approval after you submit it.

(Optional): Grant Webex Events access to your Google Developer Account

Usually, we take care of publishing your Branded App to the Google Play Store using the Webex Events Google Developer Account. While Apple requires your company to publish your app using your own Developer Account, the Google Play Store doesn't.

If you'd like your company's name listed as the provider in the Google Play Store, you'll need to authorize Webex Events to publish your app to your registered Google Developer Account.

Step 4: Build and publish your Branded Mobile App

Unless you're implementing single sign-on (SSO) as a login option, this is the final step! In the Webex Events platform, set up your app basics with components like theme color and splash screens. This is where your branding shines! 🤩 The best part? You can start this step while you're working on your Apple Developer Account. As you build your app, carefully follow our guidelines for making a hassle-free Branded App submission.

At the end, you'll fill in your Apple Developer Account information, review the app, then click 'Submit'. The app then goes to our app engineers for approval and final submission to the App Store.

💡 Keep in mind, we recommend submitting your app for publishing at least 21 days before your first event so we can have your app ready in time. If you're using SSO, submit the app at least 31 days before your event.
