How Zoom integrates with Webex Events

Two features

Whether you're interested in using Zoom for a live webinar or a video replay, you can use one of the following options:

  • Live Stream feature — When attendees tap the Live Stream feature icon to join a meeting, the live stream instantly launches in the Zoom app on a mobile device or computer. If you're using Real-Time Messaging Protocol (RTMP) to stream your Zoom meeting, the meeting will launch inside your Webex Events App.

  • Agenda Session live stream — Each Session in your Event App's Agenda can have its own live stream with its own unique link, so it's perfect for events with lots of live streams and multiple concurrent live streaming sessions. Attendees simply click or tap the Join Live Stream button to launch the meeting. The 'Join' button becomes available 15 minutes before the Session's scheduled start time.

To learn more about these options and find out which is best for your event, read our in-depth comparison article about using a Live Stream feature or Sessions for your live stream.

Two methods

No matter which option you choose, you'll control all aspects of the Zoom meeting or webinar from the Zoom application.

  • Launch Zoom externally — To use a Zoom meeting link in either of these features, select Zoom from the 'Stream provider' drop-down, then paste in your Zoom link.

    • Here's an example of zoom link formatting — https://zoom.us/j/xxxxxxxxxx.

When attendees click the Live Stream feature or the 'Join Live Stream' button in an Agenda session, Zoom opens outside your Webex Event in a browser or the Zoom app, depending on the user's device.

The Live Stream edit modal with Zoom selected as the Stream provider.
  • Embed Zoom with RTMP — To embed Zoom in your Event App so attendees can attend the meeting without launching Zoom externally, use RTMP. Refer to Zoom's article on streaming to a custom site for instructions on setting up RTMP. Pay special attention to the section of the article that explains how to start the live stream!

The Edit Live Stream modal with RTMP selected.

💡 Keep in mind, embedding Zoom with RTMP only streams the meeting video to your Webex Events App, and attendees won't be able to interact with Zoom from your Event App. However, you can still use the Polling and Q&A features and Slido with the Custom Tab option!

Common Questions

How do I restrict access to my Zoom webinar or meeting?

Restrict access to your Event App using privacy settings. This ensures that only those who have access can join the webinar or meeting. Use Groups to further restrict access.

💡 Keep in mind, anyone with access to your Event App can join the webinar or meeting. They won't need to register for it, and authentication won't be required.

Can I join my Zoom webinar or meeting as a host or panelist and as a viewer?

This isn't possible unless you join from separate accounts on separate devices.

Can I deactivate chat for a guest in the webinar while keeping everyone else's chat active?

No, you can't deactivate chat for only one guest — it's "all or nothing." You must set chat settings in Zoom before the event starts. If a guest is spamming the chat, meeting, or webinar, hosts or co-hosts can remove the guest completely. For more information, read Zoom's article about chatting in a Zoom meeting.

What security features does Zoom offer?

Visit Zoom's Trust Center to find Zoom security and privacy resources.

What accessibility options are available with Zoom?

Zoom offers closed captions and language interpretations. If you stream your Zoom meeting via Webex Events RTMP Player, consider using Webex Events Closed Captions & Translations or working with a third-party closed captions provider.
